Rescuing London

We were visiting,
The rescue shelter,
Because the older child,
Loves animals,
And wanted to visit,
It was a,
Sort of,
Birthday present,
To them,
I made it,
Quite clear,
That we weren’t,
Going to,
Adopt any creatures,
My then-partner,
Made that clear,
Too,
We already,
Had a dog,
And we we’re living,
In a very,
Tiny space,
Getting another dog,
Just wasn’t viable,
At this time,
Said the grownups,
Then we,
Met London,
And,
A few days later,
She was,
Going home,
With us.

Out and About

There is,
No London,
Quite like,
An,
Unwalked London,
And then,
When we’re out,
Hitting,
The streets,
Seeing,
The sights,
The sounds,
And smells,
The art,
And culture,
The canine,
High life,
Soaking,
It all up,
And,
The look,
On that,
Little dog’s,
Face,
Pure joy,
And with,
That look,
There’s nothing,
That’ll wipe,
The smile,
Off of mine.

The London Connection

From the beginning,
I had a special,
Spot,
In my heart,
For London,
And how London,
Fit into,
Our family,
The family,
Is,
Long gone,
But London,
Well,
She’s,
More present,
Than ever.

Every Moment

I am grateful,
For every moment,
I have,
With London,
And she’s,
Not getting,
Any younger,
London’s now,
Fourteen,
Last year,
There was,
An emergency,
And London,
And I,
Spent all day,
At the,
Animal hospital,
She’s fine now,
But it was,
Yet another,
Reminder,
That life,
Is fragile,
And that,
I need,
To enjoy,
Every little,
Bit,
With her,
Because,
One day,
There won’t be,
Any more,
Bits,
Not in,
This life,
Anyway.
