Emergency Room Ruminations

He’s at,
Friendship Hospital,
For Animals,
With his dear,
Little London,
This is,
A place,
He never,
Wants,
To be.

Worse Than They Deserve

He’s sitting,
At the,
Animal hospital,
In the,
Waiting room,
For,
Urgent Care,
The place,
People go,
Where there’s,
An emergency,
Some people,
Are sitting,
With their pets,
Other people,
Are not,
He’s sitting,
Alone,
Because,
His dear,
Little London,
Has just,
Been taken,
So that,
The medical professionals,
Can check,
Her vitals,
Coming to,
This place,
Is always,
Scary,
And there are,
Some animals here,
With,
Big problems,
He’s still,
Not sure,
How big,
London’s,
Problem is,
But he’s,
Quite worried,
And there’s,
A reason,
That they’re,
At Urgent Care,
Instead of,
Waiting for,
London,
To see,
Her regular,
Vet,
A couple,
Of people,
In the,
Waiting room,
Are really perky,
Really chatty,
Making jokes,
Trying to,
Start conversations,
With strangers,
It’s early,
Saturday morning,
And they’re,
Surrounded by,
Anxiety,
And pain,
Who are,
These terrible people,
Giving humans,
A bad name,
Worse than,
They deserve.

Reading Habits

When trauma,
Arrives,
On,
The scene,
His reading habits,
Change,
Quite a bit,
Tough to,
Read,
At all,
Only able to,
Get through,
Newspaper articles,
The shorter,
The better,
And even those,
Are tough,
Can’t get into,
Books,
Or essays,
Can’t even,
Think much,
About getting,
Into them,
Poetry,
Does not,
Really work,
Either,
He knows that,
These reading changes,
Can last,
For months,
He hopes,
That doesn’t happen,
This time around.
